Scuba Diving in Cuba

Havana - Tarara International Dive Center

Description of seabed:
Among the conditions we find in the waters of the Tarara Marina are a coral reef that has maintained its beauty in spite of close proximity to the urban center of Havana. There's visibility of more than 30 meters (98 feet) throughout the year, and the fauna is very attractive. Leaving the coast, the seabed gradually descends in steps. The first sharp drop occurs between 10 and 20 meters. Later a zone of medians appears and between 30 and 35 meters, the second big step. This structure is only interrupted by channels of the rivers which empty into the sea. The fauna that populates this zone is very attractive, noted for its color, development and diversity. Shipwrecks (esp a commercial olive oil ship from the 1920's in front of Bacuranao beach) are also able to be viewed. The massive corals are also notable in addition to brain coral, star, sheet or finger shapes, the bridge's bouquet and caverned coral. Elk antlers, red mullets, prawns, and maidservants may be sighted. There's also a common presence of green and speckled morays, trumpet fish, rock fish, ramrod dancers, dogfish and sea urchins.
