Scuba Diving in Cuba

Cienfuegos - Whale Shark International Dive Center

Description of seabed:
Corals abound including antler and brain coral, sea fans, sea fans, bride's bouquets and multicolored coral fish. In depths up to 10 meters (33 feet) you'll find various intentionally-sunken ships converted today into artificial reefs with their structures totally covered in various marine invertebrates. Many fish inhabit this sheltered feeding ground. Beginning at 12 meters (39 feet) deep rocky channels begin to form, which fall gradually to the wall at a depth of 40 meters (131 feet). These are covered in corals with massive forms, columns, large sea fans and sponges. Barracudas, red snapper, barbers, parrot fish and other fish of different sizes and colors are moving adornments of the zone. In the rocky cavities you'll find morays, lobsters, crabs, and sea-. Cat sharks, turtles, bishops and the docile whale sharks (in winter) can be seen looking for food on occasion. In addition to 6 sunken ships, an important site is El Coral, its name due to the presence of a colony of column corals which resemble a cathedral of almost 6 meters (20 feet) in height, the highest in all the Caribbean, known as Notre Dame.
