MacQueen's Island Tours - Tour Schedule
The largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba is a fascinating country. With relatively little vehicular traffic, friendly and curious locals, an eternal summer, endless unspoiled coastline and a fascinating blend of cultures, it’s an ideal place to explore by bicycle. MacQueen’s Island Tours has specialized in delivering excellent supported cycle tours to Cuba since 1994. Insight and authenticity is ensured by our use of local guides on all group cycle tours. On or behind the scenes, a member of the MacQueen family is there to ensure your holiday is everything you imagined it to be. Allow us to show you the natural beauty of Cuba, and you’ll discover that the real warmth is found in the hearts of the people. From November to April, we offer various one-week bicycle tours and the ever-popular annual Vuelta Cuba, a 2-week January trip from Santiago to Havana in January. We have resident company representatives who'll introduce you to their favorite local spots, a large fleet of top notch Canadian-made bicycles individually selected for their components, comfort and suitability to the terrain, and all the expertise and accessories to ensure an unforgettable cycle vacation in Cuba.
Western Cuba : 1 week Havana & Pinar del Rio
We start in Cuba's capital, Havana, staying in the heart of the historic old city. Marvel at the antique cars, stunning architecture and engage yourself with the friendly locals as we make our way to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Sierra del Rosario mountain range. At Soroa, the orchid garden, waterfall and fantastic massage service will enhance your holiday. Continue through rural countryside to National Natural Monument, Viñales Valley, and Los Jazmines hotel with a panoramic view of the pin cushion hills (mogotes) and the valley below. Relax with a beach day offshore at Cayo Levisa before heading back to Havana. Be sure to ask our reps about theater tickets for ballet or musical performances at the Gran Teatro, or maybe even a baseball game at the Latinamerican Stadium. Central Cuba : 1 week Santa Clara, Trinidad, Cienfuegos & Havana Your cycle tour begins with a visit to the city of Santa Clara, where revolutionary Che Guevara's remains are entombed. Our hotel features circular bamboo cabanas, modeled after the native Indians' housing, called Caneyes. We'll then cross the beautiful Escambray Mountains to Cuba's most colonial city Trinidad. We’ll ride the old sugar train through the sugarcane fields if it’s operating. Cienfuegos, the "Pearl of the Caribbean", is known for its French-influenced architecture. Spend an all inclusive afternoon snorkeling amongst tropical fish inside a natural breakwater in the Bay of Pigs before heading to historic Old Havana. We’ll dine in some of the city’s best restaurants, and cultural opportunities abound. Vuelta Cuba: 2 weeks Santiago to Havana (last 2 weeks of January)
Our 2-week
odyssey bike tour crosses Cuba from Santiago to Havana (east to west),
generally with the prevailing winds. We begin in Santiago de Cuba taking the
magnificent, deserted southern coastline as we begin our journey west.
Visit Bayamo, Camaguey,
Sancti Spiritus, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, the Bay of Pigs and
more before arriving in Cuba’s capital, Havana city. When you’ve finished
cycling you will relax in
comfortable and sometimes breathtaking surroundings. Our experienced
support team is second to none, and our equipment impresses even the most
discerning riders. Western & Central Cuba: 10 nights cities & villages Combine the highlights of our western and central tours. With this 10 night tour, you'll experience more of Cuba's diverse cities, country villages, and rural landscapes and even stay in the heart of Old Havana. In Central Cuba, you'll love exploring French-influenced Cienfuegos and colonial Trinidad, plus stop at Che Guevara's tomb in Santa Clara. In western Cuba we'll visit the waterfall and orchid garden at Soroa, see the stunning natural scenery in Vinales, and take a boat trip to Cayo Levisa before heading back to the capital, La Habana. Other Cycling Itineraries (available on demand): Eastern Cuba Challenge Tour : 11 night cycle tour
This tour is rated as challenging but if you're up to the challenge, you'll be rewarded with some great scenery in areas of Cuba seldom travelled. We'll start in Holguin before tackling the winding La Farola uphill enroute to Baracoa. Visit Guantanamo (the city, not the jail) and Cuba's first capital, Santiago de Cuba, before heading into the Sierra Maestra Mountains where we'll stay at the remote eco-resort, El Salton. A natural waterfall serves as the hotel’s breathtaking backdrop and pool. Cycle along the stunning isolated southeast coast before crossing the mountains and heading inland to Bayamo for local music & fare. Optional post-tour extension at Guardalavaca beaches. All-Central Cuba : 1 week Santa Clara, Remedios, Mayajigua, Sancti Spiritus, Trinidad, Cienfuegos
Visit Santa Clara and Che's museum and mausoleum, staying at Los Caneyes, featuring circular bamboo cabanas, modeled after original Indian housing. We'll then head north to one of Cuba's oldest towns, Remedios. An afternoon at the beach, then the next day we're off through rural countryside with great views to accompany us to a lakeside property in Mayajigua. A charming historic inn in Sancti Spiritus will be our home for a night, and then we'll visit Cuba's most colonial city Trinidad, staying just blocks from the main plaza at Hotel Las Cuevas. Continue to Cienfuegos, the "Pearl of the Caribbean", known for its French-influenced architecture dining at local restaurants. Partake in Cuba's many cultural opportunities before bidding farewell to the friendly people in Cuba. | ||||||
